Boyden Valley Winery & Spirit

64 Vermont Route 104
Cambridge, Vermont
802.644.8151

The Boyden Valley Winery is steeped in the culture and agricultural heritage of Vermont’s Green Mountains. From 8000 grapevines and 100 acres of maple trees, lovingly tended by our family for four generations, we craft wines that feature only the finest locally grown fruit from the loamy soils of the Lamoille River Valley. The care with which we’ve nurtured the Boyden Farm for 100 years lends itself to traditional winemaking techniques, producing wines clean to the palate and balanced. Boyden Valley Spirits is proud to be the first craft distilled company in the U.S. to specialize in cream liqueurs. info@boydenvalley.com

Our wines are an expression of the season. Each vintage may herald slightly different bottlings, and even wines that we tend to make every year will show variation from vintage to vintage. We work in the field and cellar as minimally as possible, as guides and companions. We believe that Terroir* encompasses geology, geography, microclimate, varietal, culture, and the human hand. Wine cannot make itself just like a dish of roasted carrots or an aged cow's milk cheese cannot. Our job is to accompany and support the wine throughout its life in the vineyard and our cantina. Our fruit is handpicked and sorted, foot crushed through pigeage. We employ glass demijohns and old barrels. We rely on the native yeast found on our fruit, the result of a happy marriage of field and fermentation. We use little to no sulphite at bottling. It depends on the wine and the season.

*Terroir (Fr) refers to the environmental factors, such as soil and climate, that give a wine its unique flavor and aroma.

In 2006 we made our first batch of commercial wine. Now we’re making about 25,000 bottles of wine a year— all strictly from grapes grown on our farm. We’ve entered the International Cold-Climate Wine Competitions four years now, and we’ve won three best-in-show awards along with several gold and double-gold medals.

We are open Wed-Sun 11-5. Come taste our wines and enjoy a glass and local cheese on our winery porch. We make something for everyone—dry to sweet—entirely from grapes we grow in our 12-acre vineyard. Please stop by!

Hillis' Sugarbush Farm & Vineyard

206 Sugarbush Farm Rd
Colchester, VT
802.893.2928

Hillis' Sugarbush Farm & Vineyard was established in 1987. The main farm is located near Lake Champlain in Colchester, Vermont on Sugarbush Farm Road. A smaller part of the farm (Butler Island Vineyard) is on Butler Island located in the middle of northern Lake Champlain.

Grape varietals grown in the vineyards include cold-hardy northern varietals such as LaCrescent, Swenson White, and Marquette, as well as a few of the tender varietals such as Vidal Blanc, Marchel Foch, and Traminette. Each year more varietals are added to each vineyard. Due to its close proximity to Lake Champlain, Sugarbush Vineyard, located in Colchester, has a slightly extended growing season. Butler Island Vineyard, which is surrounded entirely by water, has a unique micro climate and soil profile. Also, farming this unique micro climate is made complicated because it is boat accessible only.

Shelburne Vineyard

6308 Shelburne Rd
Shelburne, VT 05482
802.985.8222

It all started 35 years ago, when Ken Albert planted grapes in his backyard while working as an engineer at IBM. Inspired by the new wine industry he discovered on trips for IBM to Quebec, he leased 3 acres of land from Shelburne farms and began his commercial vineyard venture believing that viticulture and winemaking could be a success in Vermont. Scott Prom, a Shelburne neighbor, joined as a partner early on. Aided by decades of Ken’s backyard grape growing experience and Scott's home winemaking, the first commercial vintage was released in 2000.

The LEED-designed winery, opened in Feb 2008 surrounded by Marquette vines now stands welcoming the public seven days a week. The operation includes 17 acres of grapes, mostly the super hardy Minnesota hybrids, with a small planting of Riesling and Vidal Blanc.

The winery is producing reds, whites, rosés, and ice wines, many of which have earned “Best in Category” gold medals in International competitions.
